Heart Check Up

Your Heart is Visible

Hey friends,

This week I’ve been praying to take some time for real self-reflection—a heart check. The Bible reminds us that what comes out of our mouths and shows up in our actions starts in our hearts (Matthew 15:18–19). Even though this scripture is referring to the Jews who followed the law instead of Jesus teachings, we still can apply this today to our own hearts. We often forget that if we are not careful we can have a "fake" heart. Being nice to someone to get what we want or then gossiping about them behind their backs. Is this reflecting the image of God in our hearts? No! Of course, not! Have we forgotten that God sees when we have a selfish heart.

Here’s the thing: sometimes we say or do selfish things without even realizing it. We might even start living a selfish lifestyle by default. You’ve probably heard the term “fake” before—and maybe you’ve even spotted people who put on a front like no one can see through it. The truth is, most people notice, even if they never say anything out loud. Others see what you say, recognize why you said it, and it makes your heart not only visible to them but especially to God!

But instead of wasting our energy on “fake” people, our focus needs to be on God. He’s the one who truly knows our hearts—whether they’re filled with His love, or crowded with the world, our own ego, hateful attitudes or worse. He sees if we’re being manipulative, self-serving, or dishonest—even when we try to cover it up or deny it.

I’ll be honest—I’ve been that person before. I tried to ignore the things in my heart that weren’t right, but God didn’t leave me there. He showed me the chains I was in and helped me break free so i could fill those spaces in my heart that used to be full of myself. Now I try every day to live in His favor. Do I still mess up sometimes? Absolutely. But when I do, I can repent, ask for forgiveness, and keep moving forward because of His mercy. Praise God for his mercy!

At the end of the day, all of us have an appointment with God—one we don’t know the time or date for. When that moment comes, I want Him to look at me and say, “Well done.”

So, let’s keep checking our hearts, asking God to fill them with His love, and living in a way that reflects Him.

Be encouraged this week. God bless you!
